TEAM LBLDs Carla Javier

I had the pleasure of interviewing our TEAM LBLD ambassador / boarder last night. She is so fun!
We wanted to know a little more about Carla and asked her a few questions, enjoy!

Alisa: Hi Carla how are you?

Carla: Ohhh all is good, working hard. Hahaha so excited about this ;)

Alisa: YAY! You are the 1st LBLD Ambassador to be interview for our blogspot , so I am very excited too. So Carla lets get to the questions. When did you first start LongBoarding?

Carla: Well, I first started LongBoarding exactly a year ago.

Alisa: What inspired you to try it?

Carla: Well, it all began with my boyfriend and I and our curiosity for surfing. So we started investigating about it and found out it was a little too expensive for us ( despite living in the Caribbean, where you have the ocean all around you, it would take a lot of road trips to go to the really good beaches to learn, and with the price of gas, transportation and cost for boards, we got to the conclusion that our pockets couldn't take it),so, as an alternative (some people said it was very similar) we bought ourselves some LongBoards and just started learning. Good thing about it is that you can board almost everywhere!

Alisa: Nice, LongBoarding around the Caribbean sounds amazing! What were some difficulties while you were learning?

Carla: Well, it was very very different for me, because I had never ever gotten on a board before, so the feeling for me was so new and refreshing. One of the first difficulties I had was that I got the bad habit of placing my hind foot a little too much out of the edges of the board causing wheel bite on it! (Sucks I know, thankfully I corrected that!)

Alisa: A year into it and you make it look really easy! Couldn't ever tell you had a wheel bite issue :)
What was the first tricks that you tried?

Carla: When it comes to first tricks I learned; 180 toe-sides and 180 heel-sides, coleman slides also! (Classic)

Alisa: Yeah we have a pic of you in motion! What's your most notable injury?

Carla: Well, I have been lucky enough to have not suffered from a very nasty fall. All I have are some road-rash marks on me (like every other boarder) and, that's all. The falls I've had have been nothing thanks to my safety gear! (Which you should always wear no matter what!)

Alisa: Besides being a bad ass LongBoarder, what do you do for work? (Company and such can be kept anonymous)

Carla: Ahhhhhhhhhhh well, I am a graphic designer/illustrator who works in an awesome design studio on weekdays, and some days set out with my camera to capture how life flows in my environment. I also love video games and reading (any kind of topic, I think it's good to learn about different things out there). But, when it comes to sports, I also ride and train horses for show jumping and eventing. Random, huh?

Alisa: Not random at all I am a country girl too and have friends that do similar things with horses. Sounds like your job is fun & makes you happy! Are there other girls that you board with?

Carla: Uhmmmm I really don't ride with girls, my crew is all guy crew (except for  me of course!) We have a few girl LongBoarders in the country. It's mostly a guys scene here.

Alisa: Well I'll have to go down there someday with the other TEAM LBLD riders and we'll have to show 'em what girls are made of! :) Do you collect anything, if so what/why?

Carla: Oh I have profound obsession with animal bones. I really have no idea why, I think it's because it is all that remains in the end. And pencils. I need to pick up pencils whenever I see them on the floor. And keep them. Just in case I need to quick sketch something out!

Alisa: Animal bones and pencils! I just imagined you sketching on animal bones for art. ;) Since we are in the midst of the holiday season, what's your favorite holiday?

Carla: My favorite holiday? Well, I'm pretty much head over heels about Halloween due to it's historical value and how it came to be. ( Costumes and candy also, hell yes!)

Alisa: Gotta give it to you it is a super fun holiday! Over all the years what was the best present you ever got?

Carla: Best present I've had over the years? well, I've had the chance to travel a lot in my life, I think those experiences are very fulfilling and profound, at least for me.

Alisa: Agreed, ever since I started traveling and seeing other countries and experienced other cultures it's humbling and moving. Do you have tattoos? What, where and why?

Carla: Ohh no, I'm thinking about getting one though. I do have piercings though! Why? Well, I think they look beautiful, somehow like a body adornment ;)

Alisa: Make sure to take a pic of your tattoo when you do get it! Body piercings are very beautiful. What's something that most people don't know , or would never guess about you?

Carla: That I can be a very sensitive person who likes quiet and toned down places.

Alisa: Calming <3 What movie(s) can you watch over and over again and never get sick of?

Carla: ANY Hayao Miyazaki film! Spirited Away, Howls Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke! Burtons "Big Fish", Fight Club, Amelie.

Alisa: O yeah girl! Howls Moving Castle & Fight Club are two of my all time! I'll have to check out the other ones! Finish this sentence..........I can't leave the house without?

Carla: My pocket sketchbook and a pen.

Alisa: Yep, here too. Artists in the house! <3 What would I find on your playlist?

Carla: Mostly the following bands: Goodspeed You!, Black Emperor, Deftones, Mars Volta, At The Drive IN, Bon Iver, Circa Survice, Jorge Drexler, Kow Otani, Led Zeppelin, Pooma, Daughter

Alisa: Ahhhhh <3 it! What's your most over used word or phrase?

Carla: Well, I'll owe you this question :p

Alisa: Hahaha fair enough. What's the last book you've read?

Carla: H.P. Lovecraft's complete shortstory compilation <3

Alisa: Ooo, I'll have to check it out! What was your very 1st set of wheels?

Carla: I think they were Bustin Swift Freeride Wheels, 82 A

Alisa: Sweet! What's the biggest hurdle that you have overcome?

Carla: Well, for now it would be moving out of the country to keep on going with my education and career, keep growing as a professional.

Alisa: I hear that! How fun and magnificent it must be there! List 3 things you wish to accomplish?

Carla: Go road tripping around the world. (freeride and bomb every hill I can) Capture every significant moment, either with my camera or a sketch, you name it! Rider faster and faster everyday as a way to surpass myself, and most important of all: Live a happy, simple life. Enjoy every step of the way!

Alisa: Indeed, living a simple life is something I wish to achieve as well. That first one will be happening sooner than later with LBLD! Carla you are quite the interesting woman! We are so proud and honored to have such a talented roll model and TEAM LBLD Ambassador. Thank you for your time!

Carla: Ohh why thank you Alisa! Again, my best wishes go out to you, I think its absolutely awesome what you are doing! I just can't wait for what's around the corner! Again thank you so much! Hope to chat again soon!

Carla was such a pleasure chatting with and very inspirational to me as well as I hope she will be to you. Keep you eye for her in the LongBoarding circuit for Down Hill! As always #SpreadPositivity #SpreadLove

Where to find places to sk8

We believe the "Spot Finder" app is the best out there. Not only can you use your current location to find other boarders and the places they board, you can see how they rate it. You also have the ability to add spots and take pictures. In doing this you can't help build the boarding community. Find fellow boarders.

If you're interested in Events and competitions, look under our LBLDEvents tab to see our global collection of all the events and competitions. As we find travel deals we will add them to the events post. If you have any questions message us on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/LongBoardingLadyDudes

Sarah Fullmer LongBoarder

Alisa: Hi Sarah! I am so glad to do this exclusive interview with you! I first want to start off saying how great it is that your family supports your LongBoarding! I first came across your profile on InstaGram of a pic we have here of you and your sister, such character & fun came from this pic, I had to reach out, so glad I did!

Sarah: Thanks Alisa! I was so ecstatic when you wanted me to be part of LBLD! It is such a great company for girls and LongBoarders all over and I am so proud to take a part in it. As for my family they are just as excited for me as I am. My little sister from the pic is just learning how to skate and it's so awesome! LongBoarding gives my sister, friends and I something to bond over. LongBoarding has changed my life; it keeps me active and connects us girls with a common bond that is empowering, it gives us something to do that keep them away from gossiping and out of trouble and shows that as girls we aren't afraid to take on a tough sport!

Alisa: AMEN SISTA, PREACH! It does give girls a more positive way to expend their energy and in return get positive energy. All the drama & gossiping does come from lack of something else to do, or sheer cattiness which hopefully we can stop that trend. It's not cute, sexy & no one wants that drama! Hehehehe #girlproblems So, how long have you been LongBoarding & what inspired you to try?

Sarah: I've been LongBoarding for about two years now! I was inspired by a lot of things, although one in particular, when I was younger I had a poster of Farrah Fawcett on my wall on her skateboard and I remember wanting to be just like her. I was drawn to the idea of being a tom boy and loved to do anything along the lines of street sports. So I stopped for a while but got back into it and wanted to try LongBoarding. I went out to buy a cruiser with my Dad ever since then I have been LongBoarding.

Alisa: That's great! You have come along way in your boarding skills! Any tips you would like to share with new LongBoarders?

Sarah: A tip for new LongBoarders I would have to say is, just take chances and test yourself in your skills because once you conquer something in the skating world or out of it, it is one of the best feelings ever.

Alisa: That is so very true Sarah. What are your best tricks or moves and what style do you prefer riding?

Sarah: I'm getting pretty good at carving and I am improving on my sliding and I am obsessed with down hill right now but I'm still learning and mostly teaching myself but I want to learn everything eventually, so i can become really good!

Alisa: Hey hey now, we have a few things in common! I'm mostly teaching myself as well for DH. I'm not afraid and crash fall a lot but hey fall to get up again. It's all about the safety gear! Speaking of, any notable injuries from LongBoarding?

Sarah: I have some pretty nar notable injuries considering me and my cousin were pretty much teaching ourselves when we were first learning but if I eat it I eat it. I still keep on trucking for the most part. I also learned to wear protective gear because it is necessary!!

Alisa: Yep, if at first you don't have safety gear you will quickly learn the importance of it. Besides being a NorCal girl & a TEAM LBLD Rider / Ambassador what inspires you?

Sarah: What inspires me the most is the open road. My dream is to travel, LongBoard & teach others along the way! I can't picture life without LongBoarding anymore, it lets me open my mind and test myself and it has made me the Lady I am today.

Alisa: Indeed. I believe your future looks bright! As your future is being built now, what do you like most about school? What do you like least about school?

Sarah: What I like most about school is art, I think about it in all my classes up until I have it. What I like least about school is that we can't skate at school!

Alisa: Yeah, there are some schools lenient about it also see it as a form of transpiration. They'll even install somewhere the boarders can store their board while in class or at lunch. Then you have others that think it is a hazard. Are there any other girls you board with or show interest in trying?

Sarah: There are a few girls who board but I have a hard time on finding girls who ride either than just cruising. Although, right now I am teaching a girl slightly younger than me how to ride and it makes me so excited to see how happy she gets when she has accomplished something.

Alisa: It is a great feeling and it teaches you to not give up just cause it's hard. Very proud of you, that's just so awesome of you! Do you collect anything or have any other hobbies?

Sarah: I love to travel, write, draw, hike, snowboard and I have a total obsession with butterflies kinda cliche but I love them!

Alisa: What's not to love about a butterfly! So since we're going uber girly, favorite bubble gum, color, animal & place to shred?

Sarah: Chiclets, blue, dogs, and Folsom lake in the summer.

Alisa: HaHa! Favorite time of the year and why?

Sarah: Summer because it's freedom from most responsibilities and it's the best time to skate because I have time to go places and discover new spots to shred.

Alisa: Being a teen girl, what troubles do you see most of your peers facing and dealing with?

Sarah: Most girls my age have trouble with appearance, having respect and being individual.

Alisa: We see the media flooded with what we need to look like, need to buy, need to do with our life and most of all fear if you don't. I hope as we unite more free minded girls we can help make a bigger difference and a stronger focus on what life really is to be ALIVE. What's the greatest dream you have? Career / Lifestyle / Wish

Sarah: The greatest dream I have is to soak up life and while doing it never forget to know I can always grow more and learn more and be humble to know that I don't know it all, and to know that the world is changing and there is always something new to learn. I also strive to live a life to help others do what they want to do to complete their dreams as well as mine.

Alisa: Well said. It's important to carry a servants heart. What are your favorite books & movies?

Sarah: My favorite book is "Into the Wild" and my favorite movie is "A lot like Love".

Alisa: If I were to look into your playlist what would I find?

Sarah: You would find rock, soft rock, indie, house, old school, rap, country, contemporary and a lot more.

Alisa: Did you take my playlist? HaHa Just Kiddin'. What is a day in the life of Sarah consist of?

Sarah: Oh gosh, a day in the life of me would be a hour long ride to school, school, hour long ride back and then homework and then skating or hanging out with people I care about and then on my down time listening to music and writing.

Alisa: Goodness! Busy girl. What changes would you like to see in the world?

Sarah: People with open minds and huge sweep of humbleness over the world.

That wraps another interview with an AMAZING TEAM LBLD Ambassador / Boarder, miss Sarah Fullmer. Subscribe to our blogs and see meet the rest of our TEAM LBLD Ambassadors.
